i offer a full-service approach, from birth education and planning through postpartum care and support with a calm, quiet, confident presence.

1st baby: preterm labor at 30 weeks, bed rest for six weeks, PROM—premature rupture of membranes—premature birth at 36 weeks

baby loss at 20 weeks gestation between baby #1 and baby #2

2nd baby precipitous delivery at 40 weeks—full-term baby girl, 40-minute labor, baby born in a car

3rd baby precipitous delivery at 40 weeks—full-term baby boy, 40 minute labor

*precipitous delivery is less than 3 hours of labor.

breastfed three children

no menstrual period for 7 years, either pregnant or breastfeeding

with my last baby, i was 20 weeks along before i realized that i was pregnant. i was still breastfeeding, never sick, no breast tenderness, the belly was about the same size before pregnant

postpartum doula

grammie doula is a trained postpartum doula providing unbiased, non-medical, and evidence-based physical, emotional, practical, and informational support to a family after childbirth—during the transition from pregnancy to parenthood. grammie doula serves newly delivered moms following the birth of their baby, in middle Tennessee during the 16-24 weeks of recovery and up to their first birthday if needed.

grammie doula provides care in three to six-hour increments between 9 am and 6 pm monday through Friday. a doula visit lasts a minimum of three hours.

each visit looks different, but the goal remains the same, to care for the mother so she can enjoy caring for her new baby.  every mother has different needs, and the needs evolve throughout the postpartum period.

education. grammie doula shares evidence-based education on infant care and feeding support. she offers teaching strategies and skills that will improve parents’ abilities to care for and bond with their babies. teaching tools/ strategies can include in-home visits, videos, blog posts, hands-on training, and sharing her own life experiences.

support. grammie doula offers non-judgmental support as you process your birth experience and adjust to your new role as a parent of one or more little ones.  she is also a good listener and helps mom process the birth.

practical help. grammie doula helps around the house with laundry, dishes, meal prep, and light chores.

newborn care. grammie doula cares for the baby while mom enjoys some much-needed self-care. grammie doula also helps the family set up support systems such as meal trains, cleaning help, and childcare.
