before offering these meals to my postpartum families, i wanted to meet emily and try the meals myself.  read my review of the food and the interview with her. i placed an order for three meals, and sourdough bagels. be sure to use the 10% discount code for first time customers: grammiedoula

my review of emily’s freezer meal service:

from one to five, five being the best and highest.

a big 5 from me. overall, the meals were excellent, appealing, and delicious and the size portion was generous.

a big 5 for ordering from the menu. it was super easy.

a big 5 for preparing the food at home.  great, clear directions, comes in an aluminum pan.  it stores easily in the freezer.  place in oven and heat. it heated up at just the right time on the directions.

a big 5 for flavor.  it was so delicious. i did not change or add anything.  i will definitely order again.

a big 5 for ease. easy to pick up.  brought my cooler and emily met me at the car.  then home to the freezer and ready to be used on a busy evening.

emily, tell me about thyme & table

i started thyme & table with a desire to meet the needs of my community for easy, quality meals. i saw that making dinner after a long day of work or caring for children was a challenge for many families, like my own. i experienced how helpful it was for myself to keep homemade freezer meals stashed away, and i wanted to share that goodness with my neighbors.

emily, how did you come up with the idea for a farm to table meal service?

i love cooking! it’s a creative outlet for me and combines my passions for creating, healthy eating, feeding & gathering others, local foods and gardening. my favorite thing to make is sourdough bread, but i love cooking any kind of meal that starts with whole foods and nourishes those at my table!

i strive to include as much local foods as possible, including beef and pork from no rest farm in floyd, my own eggs and herbs, and produce from the cedar chest farm and glade road growing in blacksburg.

emily, why did you start the freezer meal prep business?

i started this service because i saw a real need for quality, convenient meals in my community and felt like i had the passions, skills, and resources to meet that need.

i love these frozen menu options

i update the menu monthly and encourage clients to stock their freezer for the month, however as supplies last, meals are available to purchase anytime throughout the month. home deliveries and pickups at millstone kitchen are always on wednesdays.

you’ve thought of everything. even the packaging is environmentally friendly for these freezer meals.

i use plastic-free packaging, which includes mostly aluminum pans, with compostable bags and parchment paper. i also compost as much of the food scraps as possible that are created in the cooking process.

emily, when you are not making freezer meals, what are you doing?

with the time i save cooking in the evenings, i enjoy going on walks with my husband and two daughters, working in the garden, or sitting on the porch with a cup of tea.

any final thoughts, emily?

the 10% discount code is good for anyone’s first order with me! i hope these meals save you time to be with your people and do what you enjoy! thanks for featuring me on your blog!! i’ve been telling friends about your service as well. i love how you’re supporting families in the nrv!
